Drummer Chris Smith makes his debut with Jazz Grunge, blending grooves, harmonies, and styles from rock and jazz, with his incredible band.

Like his favourite Jazz albums, the ‘Grunge’ albums of the early 1990’s spoke to Chris Smith because they offered what he perceived to be a genuine artistic vision. A vision that was not concerned with mass consumption or popular music styles. It was music that was heartfelt, full of emotion, and contained no bullshit. It was genuine. That’s the type of music that has influenced everything Chris Smith has strived for as a musician and drummer for the last 30 years. ‘Jazz Grunge’ is his genuine offering, a blend of the influences he loves and has proved formative to his drumming style. Featured an incredible band: Christopher Pawluk on guitar, Peter Slavov on bass, Jure Pukl on tenor saxophone, David DeJesus on alto saxophone and the voice of Valerie Costa.
Is it Rock? Yes. Is it Jazz? Yes. It’s an album that shows us that ‘Jazz’ is a very wide canvas that can be painted with many grooves, harmonies, and styles.
