Here’s a stellar Canadian pressing of ELO’s commercial breakthrough, “A New World Record” the album that truly solidified Jeff Lynne’s vision of orchestral pop perfection. Released in 1976, this was the record that transformed Electric Light Orchestra from prog rock experimenters into stadium-filling hitmakers, spawning classics like “Livin’ Thing,” “Telephone Line,” and “Do Ya.” Lynne’s meticulous production work shines throughout, layering his signature wall of strings and harmonies over infectious pop hooks that still sound timeless nearly five decades later.
